Firstly, it’s illegal and carries huge fines & prosecution.
I came across a skincare product online, this is what they are openly advertising:

FACT: NATURAL DOESNT ALWAYS MEAN SAFE
SYNTHETIC DOESNT MEAN HARMFULL
Fact: no skincare component can physically reach your bloodstream.
All ingredients including natural plant oils, have a chemical structure (basic chemistry). For ingredients to pass through just the epidermis, it would need to travel 83,700 nanometres , where it then becomes inactive by the protective elements in our skin such as macrophages and our immune system. To help you visualise that like getting a pin head to penetrate across a professional footfall field. In fact, the hardest part of being a cosmetic chemist, is getting actives to penetrate deeper than the epidermis.
All skincare products are designed to work and remain on the outside layers- the stratum corneum and the stratum lucidum.
Some very well designed professional can penetrate the stratum basale. They are the three layers of the epidermis. No skincare product can penetrate the dermis, let alone make it to your blood stream.
Fact: they claim their products are 99% naturally derived, yet if you look at the ingredients list and do your research, a lot of the ingredients are either go through synthetic processing or actually contain synthetic materials
I must admit, transitioning from formulator to cosmetic chemist really opens up your eyes to how misinformed we all are (even myself up until now). Formulators are not trained to look at certain data, and it’s quite shockingly! You are just taught to work within the ‘ingredient’ limits, and how to create a formula (which anyone can do). In this short time I’ve learned a lot! Scientific facts! Ive learned where I can find these scientific facts/raw material checks, and will passing all on to you guys as consumers to help you make informed choices.
